Economic and trade development

PSI Consult has the experience and expertise to support regional trade and economic development in Africa. Our experts have provided support to projects that catalyse and support economic growth corridors within the continent. We have worked on a project for TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) to support investment in the trade regulatory environment in East Africa with a focus on reducing barriers to trade and enhancing private sector markets for trade. One of the projects was targeted at supporting the development of the economic growth hub within the Southern Agriculture Growth Corridor of Tanzania (SAGCOT) region. The work entailed detailed feasibility studies and recommendation of interventions covering logistics, trade facilitation, infrastructure and working with the private sector with a focus on the maize, rice and soybean value chains. The other project entailed support for the development of the economic growth hub in Central Eastern Rwanda leveraging opportunities in the manufacturing, tourism and logistics sectors.

We also have expertise in the conduct of baseline studies with our experts having participated in a study on Baseline Situational Analysis of the Business Environment and Complementary Factors for Fostering Industrial Development in the Tripartite (COMESA, EAC and SADC) Region. The study had two components with the first part involving the assessment of the trade expansion potential for developing new industrial capacity and opportunities for upgrading value chains in agro-processing, mineral processing and chemical industries. The second part was to generate baseline information on supply-side constraints to industrial development in the Tripartite region with specific focus on the status of complimentary factors, policies and business environment conditions.

Our experts also have economic analysis and forecasting skills which help them in providing insights on developments on the African continent. This is done through analysis of key policy pronouncements at both the national and regional levels. We also provide country profiles highlighting key developments in the economic, social and political spheres.
